Food Tool for the Week: Greenopolis – a Web Community for Greener Living

People band together online for so many things; dating, hobbies, parenting and etc. It was really only a matter of time before this type of community developed a web presence. Greenopolis is an online community where members help each other live in a more eco-friendly way. After you register, Greenopolis gives you an online survey that analyzes your daily activities to see just how “green” your lifestyle really is. Based on the survey findings, you receive a colored badge, which shows other members how much of a friend to the planet you are.

By participating on the site, users are awarded points, which can also be viewed by other members. More points + corresponding changes in badge color = more environmentally responsible. I guess peer pressure can sometimes be a good thing.

Right now the site is in beta, but when the site officially debuts, points will be able to be used for discounts on sustainable products. The founders also want to make the badges portable, so users can post them on their blogs and social networking pages.

Two key points for you to think about regarding your clients business:

Green is big and the identification/symbolism around Green continues to manifest itself in interesting and new ways – being in the know about sustainability practices of your clients and their competitors is a critical piece of knowledge to have.

Social networking continues to grow and grow. Are your clients in-tune to social networking? What it means? How do they engage in it?
