Food Tool for the Week – A New Personal Food Assistant

I can’t begin to tell you how many times I promised my husband I would make a certain dish for dinner only to get home from work and discover that I in fact didn’t have all the ingredients I thought I did. Even more common than that is that I have no idea at all what I might fix for dinner so he gets to eat something “frozen” that can be heated in the oven – yes I mean a frozen pizza. I am thinking this new refrigerator may just be what I need!

This fridge knows exactly what it has inside. It’s wired so it can send messages to your phone reminding you to get the vinaigrette for tonight’s mixed salad. This is like a personal food assistant.
Designer Kim Otto took a Siemens refrigerator and replaced the existing flatscreen with a touch screen panel pc and equipped it with a RFID tag reader. As you stuff your fridge, it records each and every item in its database and starts to search the recipe database to suggest what you can prepare for dinner. (www.trendhunter.com)
